Chandelier – Untitled

A modern take on the century-old chandelier that combines digital fabrication tools with easy to find hardware components to light up your workspace.

Project Description

This project came out of a need to have better working light for my workspace. From the start, I knew that I wanted to work with wood that was held together by easy to find hardware components. This would allow anyone to recreate this at a low material cost. All of the modeling was done in Rhino with the Grasshopper plugin which allows me to change various aspects of the piece such as shape, # of cross cuts, # of holes for the wire, and many others. In the future, this could be integrated into an online store where users can create their own custom chandeliers.

Each crosscut was laser cut out of wood, sanded, and finished with wood oil. It is held together by a combination of metal wire, clear plastic tubing to separate each piece, metal washers, and all comes together when paired with a corded light socket.
